Reviews :

    This is a useful and readable book on its own, but its bonus value is as a reference for the Trust documents available free on the publisher's web site. Step by step instructions are given for avoiding the high legal costs and delays of Probate by the use of these free Living Trusts for Married and for Single persons. These forms provide the protection everyone wants and should have for the surviving spouse, children and other heirs.

If you own a home or have other assets, you need to consider a Living Trust. If you currently have a Living Trust, you owe it to your family and heirs to compare the boilerplate provisions and generalities in your document with those given at our web site and in the book. Both recommend specific provisions that clearly express the intent of the Grantor.

Most existing Trusts do not provide an adequate income for your surviving spouse; nor do they properly provide for your children and other heirs. You need a Trust that does these things.

Are you aware that many states require your Trustee to annually file and pay a special tax on your Trust? You can avoid this by including an important provision shown in Chapter 4. It allows you or your heirs to change the state that controls your Trust and avoid these annual taxes on your estate. Does your Living Trust contain this provision?

As a son or daughter, you can help your parent to use our Living Trust. The easy to understand explanations in the book show how to include important provisions that should be part of every effective estate planning document. These key options are unique to this book. You will not find them in the forms or in the text of other books on this subject.

The author of Estate Planning & Living Trust Secrets has been teaching these provisions to attorneys in state approved Continuing Legal Education courses over 12 years. Take advantage of the expertise he offers by reading the book and using the web site.

You can then download the free Living Trusts, insert your name and the names of your family and other beneficiaries, include the options from the book that you want, and then sign your name....

Getting Started in Estate Planning

Paperback, 232 pages
Publisher: Wiley
Publication Date: 2000-01-15

Reviews :

    Because You Can't Take it with You Getting Started in Estate Planning "I think it's irritating that once I die, 55% of my money goes to the United States government.. When you leave a house or money to people, then they're taxed 55%, so you've got to leave them enough so that once they're taxed, they still have some money." -- Oprah Winfrey (from The Wall Street Journal, July 28, 1999) Few of us are as rich as Oprah, but whether your estate consists of an old Ford Thunderbird, your beloved dog, or millions of dollars in property and cash, in most cases, it will be left behind after you're gone. As baby boomers approach retirement age and 401 (k) plans, stock options, and inherited wealth continue their dramatic growth, estate planning is increasingly necessary. Unless of course, you are content to leave your assets to your silent heir--the IRS. Getting Started in Estate Planning helps you take control of the planning process by sharing easy to-understand, proven strategies that everyone can use, either alone or with a professional planner, to protect their heirs for the future. Personal finance columnist Kerry Hannon helps you stop procrastinating and start establishing your goals, with guidance on such critical issues as:
* Determining the best way to dispose of your assets--and take care of your liabilities
* Deciding who should receive what--and when
* Providing for the care of minor children
* Lowering taxes so your heirs get the maximum benefits of your estate
* Choosing executors
* Surrendering ownership of assets
* Making your wishes known
* Special situations, including those of gay and lesbian couples and small business owners
* Ruling from the grave--when to let go
* Making changes as you go along
Filled with accessible strategies that are useful for all ages, Getting Started in Estate Planning will help you ensure that today's assets go where you want them to go tomorrow....

When I Leave and You Are Left
Authors: Mary M. Drakesmith. Jane R. Moerschel.
Paperback, 77 pages
Publisher: M & J Enterprises
Publication Date: 2000-06
Edition: 5th

Reviews :

    When I leave and you are left is a book to help you organize your personal affairs.The book provides space for information on bank accounts, insurance policies, investments, wills and other legal documents, contact information for family and friends, funeral preferences and a list of who gets what (jewelery,china, sports equipment etc.)and also any hidden cash.

A reason for a written record of financial papers, insurance policies and tax returns is that many families live far apart.

Another reason for this type of documentation is to avoid family rifts. When you are sorting out possessions, some people get territorial. It is the small things that cause hassles after a death in the family....
